PurpleHeart PlaneThank you for visiting Hinze Wood Creations. I've created this site to document my hobby.. er.. rather my obsession with wood working. I hope to have tips, tricks, projects, jigs, etc within these pages...

To give you a little background information, by day, I'm a Information Technology professional... yea a computer geek.  I've worked in that capacity for nearly 17 years. During my youth, including middle school, high-school, and college I played football (offensive line --> Guard and Center). I also am a competative powerlifter and have been for about 10 years.

I got into wood working by accident. I built a small cabinet for my wife who started doing small crafts.... I had so much fun with that little project that it spawned into a full blown obsession. See, nothing I ever build as a computer professional will stand the test of time, nor is it really a tangable object... it's just bit's and byte's in an electronic world. By contract, things I build out of wood (or other materials) can be held, appreciated, and passed on to family members. It's quite rewarding.

My grandfather was a pattern maker for the automotive companies and a hobbiest wood worker. He was a true master and built things I can only dream of attempting. Unfortunately, I had no interest in  the craft when he was alive (despite his attempts to teach me). This is probably my biggest regret...

As I said, this is my hobby.. however, with the economy the way it is and Information Technology jobs being outsourced to foreign countries, this may become my second career.  As it stands now, I do make custom items upon request, so if there is something you'd like to have made, please use the contact page.

Newsflash

Recently, I've become facinated with the work of Charles and Henry Green in the early 1900's. They have produced some of the most beautiful arts & crafts furniture I have ever seen. Recently I donated a custom frame to a charity fundraiser at work and found this a good opportunity to try a Green & Green inspired piece... when I say inspired, I mean loosly inspired.
