Green & Green Frame PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 09 August 2004

Recently, I've become facinated with the work of Charles and Henry Green in the early 1900's. They have produced some of the most beautiful arts & crafts furniture I have ever seen. Recently I donated a custom frame to a charity fundraiser at work and found this a good opportunity to try a Green & Green inspired piece... when I say inspired, I mean loosly inspired.

I chose genuine mahagony for the wood and chose mortise and integral tennons for the joinery. I added a subtle lift profile to the top an bootom of the frame. At this stage of construction, I still need to add the ebony pins to the four corners, cut the rabbet in the back for the glass/picture.. and of course, sand and finish.

For the finish, I'm planning on using a mahagony gel stain, followed by an oil finish and eurthane top coat. More pictures to come as the project progresses.

Newsflash

I've been working on a todler bed for a client. We designed it together based on a contemporary piece made for a crib mattress. We alter the design to accomodate a twin size mattress and altered the headboard...

I'll include (at a later date) the original piece, and 2 sketchup design iterations. But for now, see below for the current state of the project... it requires final assembly, side rails built and installed, sanding and final finishing...
